The current Senator from District 9 is Donald McEachin. ==Historical boundaries== From 1940 to 1956, the 9th Senate District included the Virginia Piedmont counties of Amelia, Amherst, Appomattox, Buckingham, Cumberland, Nelson and Powhatan. From 1956 to 1966, the 9th Senate District included all of Arlington County. As a result of the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling in the One person, one vote case of Davis v. Mann, the General Assembly redistricted itself and from 1966 to 1970, Arlington County was divided into 2 districts with the 9th District including only the southern portion of the county. Beginning in 1972, as a result of a regular decennial redistricting, the 9th Senate District was relocated to Richmond and included the eastern side of the City of Richmond. In 1981, the district was expanded to include part of Henrico County, in addition to part of the City of Richmond.
